Listening to the Body:
Principles and Tools of Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy
June 17-22, 2007
Location: Kripalu Center, Lenox, MA
The growing field of somatic psychotherapy recognizes what many Eastern spiritual traditions have taught for hundreds of years: our emotions and our bodies are very connected. Buddhist meditation teacher Shinzen Young speaks of the thinking mind and the "feeling body" as the two senses that, in addition to the five commonly identified senses, comprise human experience.
Unresolved issues not only leave their imprint on the mind and behavior; they also are held within the physical body. Feelings are, in their essence, energetic and physical phenomena. Bringing a clear presence and deep listening to what is happening within the body is a way of "getting at the root of things," and has the potential to support clients' natural inclinations towards healing and growth.
Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy helps you develop a strong and safe container, so that feelings can begin to flow and emotional blocks can be released. Whether you are suffering from anxiety or depression, PRYT is a wonderful adjunct treatment, along with your yoga practice, to bring balance to your emotional body as well as your physical body. |

In 2007 the Phoenix Rising Body/Mind program for Mental Health Professionals will be held at the Kripalu Center, Lenox, Massachusetts June 17-22. It has been renamed Listening to the Body: Principles and Tools of Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy Workshop. All are welcome.
In this experiential workshop you will learn specific body-mind techniques that support listening to the wisdom of your own body and integrating this somatic experience into your life.
These techniques are especially useful for, but not limited to, mental health professionals and anyone in the care-giving community who are looking for a way to go to the next level with themselves and with their clients. Learning to bring simple presence to the body is often not as easy to do as it sounds. However, it is worth the effort as it has the power to support profound change in a way that talking alone rarely achieves.
(Note: No prior yoga experience is necessary.)
