A Note From Rachel

Hello and Welcome! I’d like to start by telling you a bit about myself and my journey thus far. I recognize that you have to be comfortable with me personally in order for our work together to be successful. I hope that after reading this you will be excited to take the next step and contact me directly.

Currently my work in the world is as a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy practitioner, yoga instructor, mentor and mother. Over the past five years, I have also worked as a high school counselor and a wilderness guide. While the forms of my work are varied, the purpose is the same. I am interested in helping you cultivate a rich inner life that informs your everyday decisions as well as the choices you make as you move along your life path.

Picture the perfect vinyasa (a series of movements connected by the breath). You inhale and your body naturally moves into a posture. You exhale and without thinking, your body flows into another. Each movement is initiated by the breath – the kind of breath that comes both from you and beyond you. You are both breathing and being breathed. You don’t have to figure out what comes next because there is a deep wisdom in your body that guides you through your practice with purpose and fluidity. Now imagine stepping off the mat and moving through life in this way – guided by both the core essence of who you are as well as a greater energy that connects you to everything else. This is the intention I hold in my work: to support you in working through the many challenges that present themselves everyday by tapping into your core essence for guidance.

So how did I come to this work – this held vision of the perfect vinyasa? I was a student of yoga for 10 years and a high school teacher by trade when I began my Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and concurrently, yoga instructor certification. I became very interested in the profound effect working with the body has in the therapeutic setting and turned my focus towards body centered modalities. When I completed my Masters Degree and received my yoga certification, I decided to study Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy. This modality was a natural extension of my studies as it gave me a structured and tangible way to integrate the mind, body and spirit. In addition to a background in bodywork and psychotherapy, I trained with Animas Valley Institute for four years where I eventually began guiding vision quests and other nature-based programs. Here, I acquired a new set of tools including dreamwork, deep imagery, ceremony and nature-based practices which I weave into my Phoenix Rising and mentoring sessions.

I draw from a wide variety of forms, influences, processes and tools to design an experience that addresses your specific needs. Ultimately, my goal is to create a space where with a little structure and encouragement and great compassion, you will receive the information you need to move, grow and unfold – to feel unmistakably guided by your core essence.

Experience a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy Session

In our Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy session, I will guide you through a sequence of assisted yoga postures designed to take you deeper into your internal experience. As I support you in the postures, we will engage in dialog that focuses your attention on what you are experiencing. You are invited to explore sensations, emotions, memories, or images that are present in your body.

Each session includes an integration period to assist you in processing your experience and to help you explore how you can bring your insights into action.

Sessions are 75- 90 minutes and no prior yoga experience is necessary. Please contact me with any questions.

  • Dynamic Yoga Therapy
This class combines challenging vinyasa flow sequences with focused awareness practices in order to gain a deeper understanding of what your body needs in the moment. Students are encouraged to move at their own pace and respond to their individual needs and desires, creating an opportunity to develop a strong personal practice while receiving the benefits of a structured group practice. An ongoing yoga practice is recommended.
  • Workshop: Introduction to Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy
In this experiential workshop, Rachel will introduce you to the PRYT approach and guide you through a yoga-based mind-body experience. You will learn techniques to help you tap into the wisdom of your body and apply that wisdom to what is happening in your life. These practices, including imagery, body-centered awareness practices, breathwork and restorative asanas will help you deepen your personal yoga practice. (no prior yoga experience is necessary)
  • Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy Intensives
Our bodies are constantly speaking to us - offering information about our lives and the choices we make. Unfortunately, we don’t always have the tools and resources we need  to understand what our bodies are trying to tell us. When we hold postures for longer periods of time while integrating awareness practices, deep imagery and breathwork we are able to move into a deeper conversation with our bodies and our unconscious selves. In this six week intensive we will focus on different postures and themes, giving you an opportunity to learn more about what is happening in your body and how that connects to your everyday life. Ultimately, we are exploring how we can deepen our yoga practice so that it supports our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. If you have worked with Rachel in the past, you can expect a new experience. So please join us whether you are experienced in Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy or totally new to yoga. (no prior yoga experience is necessary)
  • Mentoring
One-on-one mentoring sessions can help you gain clarity on your individual life path. I draw from a variety of processes including bodywork, deep imagery, dreamwork, ceremony, and nature-based practices to support you in moving through life in a way that reflects and enlivens who you most deeply are.
  • Private Yoga Instruction
Would you like focused one-on-one attention to help you deepen your yoga practice? I will guide you through a private yoga class designed to meet your specific needs.
