YOGA
THERAPY FOR IRRITABLE BOWEL TRIAL PROGRAM SHOWS 55% DROP IN SYMPTOMS
Results from
a trial program conducted in spring of this year indicate an overall
drop of 55% in symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome as reported
by participants in the program. The program was held over eight
weeks, meeting weekly at the Phoenix Rising Center in West Stockbridge,
MA. It was led by Michael Lee, MA - the founder of Phoenix Rising
Yoga Therapy and Michael Taylor, MD - a former oncologist, now devoted
to the application of yoga therapy and mindfulness techniques for
the prevention and relief of stress related disorders. A further
trial program led by Taylor and Lee will be held in the fall, beginning
October 15th, at the same venue.
The program
uses both Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy and the practice of Mindfulness
to help participants identify the sources of the stress underlying
their condition. As well as guided yoga and meditation experiences
participants also engage in group discussion and personal self-observation
along with structured homework exercises. No previous experience
of yoga is required and the classes are designed to suit all comers
regardless of physical condition or age. Also in the fall the Center
will be conducing the first Advanced Training Program for Phoenix
Rising practitioners to train them to lead similar groups in their
home locations throughout the US, as well as in Canada, Iceland,
and Australia.
